Varsity lions hit playoffs hard in Lubbock

Lady lions are undefeated, Area Champs! However lost their first game all season in state semi-finals against Lubbock.

Lady Lions had an exceptional volleyball season this year. Going into the regular season undefeated, they won district and then went on to win the Area Championship. They had an unexpected loss in the State Semi-Finals against Lubbock Trinity; their only loss this year.

Volleyball Fan Junior Dawson Foster, described the season as “killer”, which is extremely fitting as this varsity team had no trouble dominating teams from much larger schools such as Fort Worth Christian, Lake Country and their biggest rival: Pantego…twice!

Senior Haven Rodgers serves against PCA. She signed to play college volleyball last month.

“The season was definitely one to remember,” said Senior Haven Rodgers, defensive specialist. “We had many hard moments, exciting moments, and everything in between.”

Rodgers felt that as a team, they overcame many obstacles, turning the team into stronger individuals, and teammates.

“Although we didn’t end up where we wanted to, we accomplished so many amazing things this season,” said Rodgers.

Rodgers will continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level at Southern Nazarene University, with whom she officially signed with on November 7th of this year.

“It’s so rewarding,” said Rodgers. “I’m so grateful and lucky to get to attend and play for a school that I’m so passionate about.”

Head Coach Prentice Lewis is not surprised at Haven’s success.

“The Grace Prep family is so proud of Haven and her accomplishements. She will be a great player for them!”

Lady lions always strived to play with complete unity relying on each other to win.

“[The team has] girls who have played together since elementary school, so a lot of us have played together, so that unity has already been there,” said Junior Claire Bullington, outside hitter.

”Being able to rely on each other whenever one of is maybe not doing so well, the other can pick up the slack, just being able to lean on each other throughout the season,” said Setter, Junior KayLee Sedwick.

These undefeated team-mates also received sizeable honors.
Bullington, Hannah Kinney and Molly Davis received First team All-State honors while freshman Bonnie Davis and Sophomore Sage Post received All-State honors.

The volleyball season was one to remember as the girls showed valiant effort and
many of the players received individual awards from all-district to all-state honors
