Varsity football claims Area title; a first in 14 years!

“It’s a legacy we are starting…like if we’re doing this right now, imagine the teams behind us…the Grace Prep football program is on to greatness,” said Senior Quinton Browder.

“We accomplished one of our top goals which was to make the playoffs and go to district and to host a playoff game,”said Head Coach David Reese.
Grace Prep made a deeper playoff run then expected, winning both District and Area for the first time in 14 years.
“Coming off from last year I didn’t think  we would make it this far, but after all the work we have done I’m not surprised we made it this far after all,” said Senior Nolan Parker, Left Tackle.
Grace Prep faced Lubbock Trinity Christian in a first round Home Area Playoff game Taking them 46-36 winning the first round of playoffs.
“[It was] great for those guys to experience a playoff game and a win in a playoff game in front of friends and family,” added Reese.
Trinity Christian gave us a hard-fought game but the Lions prospered to reach the Regional Game.
“I don’t really over-think it too much bro cause like I don’t be getting nervous…I go out there and do what we need to do,” said Senior Quinton Browder, Middle Linebacker.
Providence Christian Academy hosted the regional playoff game for Coram Deo Academy and Grace Prep,  the Lions ended up losing 52-7; A heart-crushing defeat for the seniors this being their last game as High School football players.
“After the game it all just hit me…wow, this my last High School football game i’m ever gonna play and it was emotional,” said Browder.
Browder was not alone in this sentiment.
Senior Running Back DJ Oats agreed,  “Just losing that game, mid third quarter, I had tears in my eyes.”
A tough loss for the Lions.
“Either way it goes, this season was a blessing,” said Oats.
Grace Prep’s Lions may have lost early in Playoffs but are proud of the bar they set for next years’ upcoming seniors and future team leaders.
“The underclassman did a lot to bring up intensity from last year too, and we had great balance between offense and defense,” said Parker thinking of his last season. “We had a lot of great coaches who helped provide a lot of great support to Coach Reese also, who has a lot of experience and that served us well this year.”
Proud to win Area this year, seniors are already encouraging underclassmen to succeed next year..
