As the cheerleaders of Grace Prep flip into a new year, they are ready to compete at the TAPPS cheerleading competition! They have worked long and hard to get to here. On January 10 and 11, the team got to finally perform!

With his second year of cheering as a Grace Prep lion, senior, Dawson Foster was very excited, yet apprehensive to compete.

This competition team practiced for 3 months with intricate tumbling and dance passes, that set them up for a state win January 14, 2019. This is the first time Grace Prep has ever won this competition.

“I was definitely nervous. Nervous mixed with exhausted. Those nerves came from excitement though,” said Foster.

Senior Maci Stewart and Dawson Foster were the competition squad captains. Both of them knew how hard the team had worked and were thrilled to see their hard work pay off.

Stewart is continuing her cheerleading career by joining Dallas Baptist University’s Stunt team! She is beyond excited to have this opportunity. Foster has not made any decisions regarding cheer in college, however; it is an option he is considering.

Freshman Hope Scarborough had the opportunity to compete with the lions this year. This was her first year to compete alongside Grace Prep, but she has done competitive cheer and gymnastics in the past.

Scarborough was nervous leading up to the competition, but the whole team gathered before they went on the mat and prayed.

“We prayed and gave everything to God. This was great because it calmed our nerves and reminded us that God is with us no matter what happens,” said Scarborough.

Hope is known for her amazing tumbling passes. She always gets the crowd on their feet and makes their jaws drop!

“Tumbling is a really big passion of mine so it’s always fun to tumble with my team,” said Scarborough.
