Newspaper Staff of “The Mane Post” win UIL individual awards

Three students won individual awards for their outstanding work from the Interscholastic League Press Conference, which is part of the the University of Interscholastic League, or UIL. This is the public school’s version of TAPPS. Our school competed with hundreds of schools from around the state of Texas in the 3A category. These were both public and private schools that we competed with.
Senior Michael Lester won first place at the state 3A University Interscholastic League Press Conference April 18th, for his personal opinion column entitled “Make Cents: Free community college proposal brings controversy”.

Junior Kole Jordan, not pictured, won 2nd place for his Editorial Cartoon “Isis Crisis: Whelp, that ought to do it”, depicting President Obama kicking back after sending one air strike to eliminate Isis.
Freshman Grace McDaniel, won 3rd place for her Entertainment Review ”Unbroken: Novel shows depth of emotion movie missed”, found here at www.themanepost.com under the entertainment tab, and Honorable Mention for her Sports News Story “Repetition and practice makes perfect 3A state champs”, which can be found under the sports tab.
