New Head Football Coach Announced

Coach Reese announced at the Basketball game in January, took the mic to address the crowd. He has since met with the athletes individually to get to know his team.

Familiar face, familiar name; David Reese, is the new head football coach here.

Coach Reese has been with Grace Prep before.  He served in multiple job roles within the athletic department from 1999-2008.

Coach David Reese was hired by Athletic Director Richie Alfred recently as Reese just moved back to Texas.  He was announced at half time of the varsity basketball game on January 12th.

Coach Reese was named Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2006.  He was on the coaching staff of four football state championship teams here (1999, 2002, 2003, and 2005).  Before becoming head coach in 2006, he served as interim head coach in 2001. He also coached the famed GPA graduate, Justin Forsett, NFL Running Back.

“I am so excited to have the opportunity to come back to Grace Prep,” said Reese. “It is great to back in Texas and a bonus to be back at Grace.”

He served as Head Coach and Athletics Director at Monte Vista Christian School in California most recently.  Reese earned Coach of the Year honors in 2011, 2014 and 2015 there, and made the playoffs six of the seven years at Monte Vista.

“We were impressed that Coach Reese has had success not only here at Grace Prep, but at other schools of similar nature,” said Head of School, Dr. Marc Evans.

While Coach was gone, GPA has gone through some changes, yet the important things have stayed the same.

“The gym, the whole facility is amazing and that’s a huge change, because in the past we had to rent and go off campus for multiple sports,” said Coach Reese.  “Still a Godly school, with good kids.”

A new coach means a new style of play.

“We’ll be a multi-formation, mostly gun,” said Coach Reese.  “Dictated by what type of athletes we have and the teams we play, and an aggressive attack defense.”

Coach Reese is excited about his new players.

“All the guys I have talked to are hungry and excited. We’re going to work hard!”
