Senior Guard DJ Jones goes up for a dunk.

Lions begin final countdown

The Varsity Lions 2019-2020 season so far has been thrilling. With playoffs coming up, the team is  sitting at a 22 win and 6 loss record. With this being Coach Alfred’s last year at Grace Prep, every single playoff game will be taken very seriously.

Head Coach Richie Alfred believes that this year’s team can go far with the strengths of communication, shooting, and hustle. Senior Guard DJ Jones agrees as he reflects on the district season.

Senior Guard DJ Jones goes up for a dunk.

“Our biggest accomplishment this season so far is having 7 wins, only 1 loss against larger public schools,” said Jones.

The Lions offense is  led by Senior Guards DJ Jones and Brandon Lawrence. The two premium ball handlers and passers help make everyone else better in many ways.

“They lead by example because they work hard and do themselves what they ask others to do, I guess you can say they’ve earned their respect,” said Sophomore Guard Justin Mcnelkan.

The Lions have plenty of talent but there is one area they can improve upon.

“Senior Guard play and experience is our strength this season,” said Coach Alfred.“Although I think we lack some communication skills while on the court.” said Coach Alfred.

The Lions have two more district games until the playoffs where they plan to take their talents all the way to state and try for another state championship.
