Grace Prep wins Spring Creek Barbeque Invitational

Varsity lions men’s basketball win the first home-gym tournament GPA has ever hosted.
The tournament, running over three days Dec. 7-9, brought in 16 teams from around the Metroplex and was sponsored by Spring Creek Barbeque.

The tournament featured both public and private schools of all sizes from 3A to 6A. Richland High School won 2nd, and Oakridge School won third. The lions’ final score against Richland was 77-65.

“Our team probably played our most complete game of the year to date,” said Head Coach Richie Alfred. “Jordan Phillips was outstanding and carried through large stretches of the game. Both Yafet Alefnew and Brandon Lawrence made key offensive contributions. DJ Jones, Jeremiah Tucker and Myles McCrary were great on the defensive end. I am very proud of our team and hope that we continue to build on the momentum.”

This lions’ team consists of 6 seniors, 5 juniors and 3 sophomores, and are coached by Richie Alfred, Melcon Jones and Jason Lake.
