This was the first year that both the boys and girls golf team advanced to the state tournament
The Golf Team Takes A Shot At State
The golf men and women’s team took their shot to add to the list of our state championships earned here this year.
The men’s team finished 6th, placing for the first time since 2002, and the women’s team finished with a historical 2nd place at the TAPPS 4A Championship April 29th. “In January we looked pretty rusty, but we are peaking at the right time and we look really good right now,” said Head Golf Coach Will Eubanks.
The team knew they had a lot of work to do if they wanted to achieve the goals that they had set for this season. The girls’ team was on a new course for the school, because it finally had enough players (four players are needed) to form an official women’s team here for the first time.
Going into playoffs, the senior leadership of Noah Flynn, Clayton Phillips, and Sierra Scala have taken tremendous strides in the right direction.
“I think our golf season has been great, we dominated our district by getting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd which is pretty impressive if you ask me!” said Senior Clayton Phillips.
At the district tournament at Hidden Creek Golf Club both the boys and girls teams represented Grace well. Both teams placed first overall in district; Grace Barker won 1st in the girls division, Noah Flynn placed 1st in the boys division, with his fellow teammates finishing behind him.

“I’m really excited to go to State and I can’t wait to see how it turns out for us,” said sophomore, Layla Holsten.
After the first day of the tournament, the lady lions were in second place, after a solid performance from all five of the girls.
“Playing in the State golf tournament was unreal and I hope I get the chance to come back here and get another shot at it; no pun intended,” said Sophomore Hudson Graber.
In the end the boys team finished in sixth place overall, and the girls finished in second place making them the first girl’s golf team to place at state.
“We have come a long way this season and I’m so proud of each and every one of these kids,” said Assistant Coach, Matt Burke.
Tune in next year as the team attempts to make it back to state!
