Beloved Teacher Retires

23 years of being a part of the Grace Prep family as a mother to sons and alumni JJ and James.

15 years of service as a teacher to the Grace Prep family.

Kathy Blass has been the face of the Grace Prep STEM program. She has taught grades 8-12, and multiple classes, including: Algebra 2, College Prep Math, Earth Science, Physical Science, Chemistry, and Physics.

As the 2019 Spring semester comes to a close, she finds herself leaving as a teacher, but never as a friend and mentor.

According to many students, Mrs. Blass has made a lasting impact here.

“I’m going to miss just talking about life [with Mrs. Blass], and the next steps of my college career,” said Junior Drew Moore.

For Mrs. Blass, the best thing about teaching at Grace, is the lasting friendships she has formed, and the ability to mentor students.

“She really cares about the students so much… I really do see how she mentors athletes and the people some other teachers may overlook,” said Senior Morgan Reynolds.

Her love of sports has led her to become the athletic liaison here, making sure our athletes are in compliance with TAPPS competition standards. She attends ALL of the athletic events. One may find her in the spring at the tennis tournaments, or huddled up in a blanket in the bleachers at a football game watching our athletes.    “I know that all of them [athletes] deserve to be cheered for, and I thoroughly enjoy being able to do that,” said Blass.

Though many are sad to see her go, Mrs. Blass is at peace with her decision.

“I know that God has placed me at Grace for a time to help influence these students,” said Blass.

She will not be forgotten, because she has left such a legacy here..

Once a lion, always a lion.
